Duties

Introductory Statement: The function of the organization is to provide housing to transient personnel, to families who are temporarily without permanent housing, furnishings for transient quarters, and linen exchange services to authorized organizations. The purpose of this position is to perform simple, manual tasks for the Services Lodging program.

Performs a variety of simple, manual tasks involving the use of simple hand tools and equipment. Lifts and carries light-to- medium weight packages, materials, and tools. Opens and unpacks cardboard cartons by hand and removes contents; lifts and carries light-to-medium weight packages, materials, tools, furniture, debris, etc., and places them where directed. Uses hand trucks and/or dollies to move bulky but relatively light loads (e.g., boxes of copier paper or other office supplies). Picks up trash and paper from grounds and working areas. Cuts grass with push lawn mower (manual); rakes leaves; spreads mulch; pulls weeds; trims and waters grass; sprays pre-mixed weed and/or insect control solutions; spreads abrasives and/or chemicals on icy surfaces; shovels snow. Washes motor vehicles; and wipes dirt or grease from hand tools. Plants minor landscape items, etc.

Responsibility: Supervisor assigns work by simple, oral instructions, provides specific instructions for each different task, and evaluates performance.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts and carries light-to-medium weight objects (10 to 30 lbs) and occasionally lifts objects up to 45 pounds. Continuous walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.

Working Conditions: Work may be outdoors, in all kinds of weather conditions. Inside work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or lodging facilities. Frequently exposed to weather and extreme temperatures, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. May be exposed to the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, and scrapes.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Properly selects equipment to be used for each assigned task. Promptly and safely lifts, carries, unpacks, and moves bulky items. Consistently accomplishes tasks in a timely manner following instructions provided by supervisor. Properly uses, cleans, and accounts for tools required to accomplish assigned duties. Consistently operates hand tools in a safe manner, applying established safety regulations to minimize and avoid violations due to employee error or negligence. Strictly follows safety and security instructions. Promptly informs supervisor of accidents and/or damages to supplies, equipment or vehicles, and of any observed unsafe practices and/or procedures in a timely manner according to established policies and procedures. Consistently cleans tools and work environment as instructed. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing (e.g., safety gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, or respirators).

Qualifying Experience:
Qualifying Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): No previous experience or training required. Must be able to use hand tools and equipment such as rakes, hoes, and hand-trucks properly, and be physically able to frequently lift and carry light-to-medium objects weighing 10 to 30 pounds. May occasionally be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 45 pounds. Must be able to actively bend, stoop, reach, and work in awkward positions.

Education
