General Definition of Work
Under the supervision of the Director I - Information Technology, the System Administrator is responsible for installing, upgrading and monitoring software and hardware; maintaining the operating systems, business applications, security tools, web-servers, email, PCs, local and wide area networking both hardware and software and mid-range server hardware.
Essential Functions
- Review and maintain existing application systems and programs
- Review manual operation and making recommendations for adaptation to computerize systems
- Define user tasks and goals in terms of a computerized systems, translating to an appropriate computer language, keying and testing programs
- Provide instruction and support in the use of software and equipment to users and operational staff
- Certify data integrity of centralized data bases
- Operate various computers, scanners, and related equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of modern techniques in system design and analysis
- General knowledge of several computer languages
- Thorough knowledge of Active Directory
- General knowledge of operation, uses and capabilities of computers, and related equipment
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction
Qualifications
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a community college with major work in computer science
- Considerable experience in computer operation and programming
