Purpose and Scope of Position
The purpose of this position is to market, underwrite, and close new business and renewal sales. This position will report to the Vice President, Head of Commercial Lines at Wildfire Defense Insurance Services. This position does not supervise others.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to write business as a production-based underwriter who is ambitious and proactive in closing sales while protecting the carrier’s loss ratio.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with retail brokers
- Provide excellent service through frequent email and phone communication
- Apply critical thinking and underwriting mindset to all accounts, alert team of trends or problems
- Work collaboratively with multiple departments to ensure best possible outcome for all inquiries, frequent collaboration for peer review of underwriting and working closely with data scientist/wildfire modeling team to make decisions on risks.
- Work within underwriting authority and refer business to supervisor when necessary
- Be proactive in problem solving and account servicing
- Communicate ideas for procedural or workflow improvement, provide creative insight to marketing and sales strategies• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff, have a willingness to share knowledge
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction
- At least 5 years of Underwriting, Brokering, Producer, or Insurance Sales Experience
- Ability to work in a fast paced start up team environment with a desire to learn and understand our insurance product offerings and value proposition
- Participation in insurance industry events, presentations to retail clients, and light travel as needed
- Safeguard WDIS, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting issues with transparency
Basic Qualifications (i.e. education, certifications, etc…)
- Ideal candidate holds a California P&C Agent/Broker License, and is able to obtain other licenses afterhire date• Bachelor’s Degree preferred or Property/Casualty insurance experience• Insurance industry designations are a plus• Knowledge of Commercial Property, Surplus Lines, Underwriting

- Able to meet sales goals, excellent attention to detail, flexible to change
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Policy Management/Underwriting Systems

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
