Job Summary
The
Journeyman UGE Lineman is responsible for performing diversified work related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. This position supports the Line team and works with other personnel from the department.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Foreman with paperwork and running the crew, as needed.
- Understand and perform switching procedures to isolate and insulate underground power lines.
- Efficiently operate a bucket truck, digger truck, wire pullers, backyard machine, air compressor, and tools necessary to build/maintain power lines.
- Splice and terminate underground power lines following proper procedures.
- Set and work on underground transformers and other devices.
- Properly phase, mark and/or tag underground equipment.
- Set a good example for less experienced employees by always following and teaching safe practices.
- Be the senior hands-on person working on or around energized lines.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Valid CDL Class A or obtain in 90 days
Preferred
- 3 or more years of experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
