Under the supervision of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Paramedic will provide fire, rescue and emergency medical services, hazardous material events and required duties as they relate to the fire service within the community, locally and statewide. Additionally, the Firefighter/Paramedic will participate in the daily activities of their assigned station to ensure efficient operation.
This position works an average of 56 hours per week, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Applicants must fit the demands of fire service operations and be able to work in an environment that includes periods of very inclement weather.
TDFPD has a particular desire for individuals motivated to excel in physical fitness, EMS training/education, fire suppression, wildland fire and other skills, not just in the early years, but for their entire careers.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Fire Service Training and Certifications
- 2 years full-time Firefighter/Paramedic professional experience, within the last 3 years, at an all-risk public fire agency and must be in good standing
- Valid NFPA Firefighter I, Firefighter II (preferred)
- NFPA Hazmat FRO/FRA
EMS Training and Certifications
- Current Nevada EMT-Paramedic certification OR Current National Registered Paramedic with ability to obtain a Nevada Paramedic Certification
- Successful candidates will be required to have at a minimum a provisional Nevada State EMS certification and Ambulance attendant license within 30 days of employment and must complete the State Licensing requirements within 90 days of employment.
- ACLS, PALS, ITLS/PHTLS and CPR current certifications (Certifications which expire within 30 days must be renewed prior to start.)
Physical Requirements
- Pre-hire physical capacity assessment will include a 1-mile run, 100-meter open water swim, aerial ladder climb and field testing of firefighting skills.
Driver’s License Requirements
- Possession of a valid Nevada driver’s license Class “B” or “C” with an “F” endorsement, OR
- Nevada Commercial driver’s license Class “A “ or “B”, OR
- Out of state equivalent driver’s license is acceptable based on state of residence
All licenses will be required within 30 days of employment.

Compensation
Starting annual salary with base incentives: $71,140
Top annual salary with max incentives: $97,255
Incentive pay can include EOD, HazMat, Basin Residency, Holiday, Uniform, Education, Field Training Paramedic and Field Training Officer ranging from 5.5% to 30% of base salary. A longevity incentive is added after completing 60 months of uninterrupted service of 0.5% of base salary for every year of service, up to a maximum of 12.5%.

Probationary Period: 12 months

- Post-retirement health insurance premiums 100% paid by the district for employee and spouse (earned after 25 years of employment at age 55) to age 65, then coverts to a Health Reimbursement Account. As of July 2021, this liability is fully-funded, one of the few agencies in the nation with this status.
