The Assistant Vice President (AVP) Inventive Scientist is responsible for directing, planning and apportioning the work of a team of Data Science and Engineering Directors with large technical cross-functional teams reporting to them.

About the job:

• Manage and direct inventive research and advanced technology data science and engineering teams overseeing the strategic direction and administration of complex, inter disciplinary research programs, involving ground-breaking invention and innovation in tools, approaches and methodologies.
• Lead complex data science and data engineering projects providing business value through close collaboration with Business Unit partners. Coordinate the end to end delivery of data insights and data products by working with other CDO teams for delivery, engagement, solution engineering, and enterprise data platform needs.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business unit partners to understand business problems and pain points, and develop new use cases.
• Effectively communicate results of initiatives and quantify the value of data science projects to senior management within CDO and Business Units.
• Apply data science, data engineering and innovation with large scale data sets to develop solutions that can result in large revenue or cost benefit opportunities across AT&T.
• Leads the oversight of AI governance, and responsible AI at AT&T. Support both direct team and staff management, coaching, mentoring, career development, and performance management in the regular course of the job, providing opportunities for technical and career growth.
• Create high performance data management practice for data and AI
• Conduct staff meetings, culture and outreach sessions
• Recommends enterprise or function wide policies maintaining critical expertise in specific technical area
• Participate in vendor reviews and makes recommendations for vendor selection.

Qualifications:

• Preferred PhD or Master's of Science degree in a Technical, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience.
• Requires ten or more years of managing a technical team.
• Expertise in conversational AI and the use of large language models including all aspects, indexing documents, prompt engineering, embedding matching for context, fine tuning, and creation of foundational models a plus.
• Experience managing large inter-disciplinary teams to produce product-level data-engineering assets, leveraging and optimizing technologies
• At least 8 years of hands-on experience in Big Data Technology tools
• Requires on site presence in either Dallas, TX or Middletown, NJ.

Our AVP Inventive Scientist earn between $226,400 – $317,000 annually. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
